SCHOLARSHIP INFORMATION
AWARDS: Varies
ELIGIBILITY: Applicants must meet the following targeted eligibility requirements, in either the FINANCIAL NEED or MERIT BASED scholarship categories. Applicants can only apply to one scholarship category. Please choose wisely.
FINANCIAL NEED:
i. African-American high school senior within the County of Los Angeles school districts.
ii. At least a 2.5 or higher grade point average on a four point scale.
iii. Extra-curricular activities and leadership qualities.
iv. Evidence of financial need.
MERIT BASED:
i. African-American high school senior within the County of Los Angeles school districts.
ii. At least a 3.5 or higher grade point average on a four point scale.
iii. Extra-curricular activities and leadership qualities.
REQUIRED: The applicant must complete and submit the following information:
DOCUMENTS:
1. Provide a 3 x 2 wallet size photo.
2. An official copy of your high school transcript, including Fall 2020 semester grades. 3. Response to an essay prompt (typed on application or a separate sheet of 8 1⁄2 x 11
paper, 1” margins, 12 Times New Roman single space, and no more than 500 word
count).
4. FINANCIAL NEED ONLY A copy of pg.3 of your Electronic Student Aid Report (SAR)
from your Free Application Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or a personal letter stating financial need with extraneous circumstances, from a school official, on official school letterhead.
5. Three (3) Letters of Recommendations –
All recommendations must be sent from the recommender’s official school,
organization or corporate email address to scholarship@dstlachapter.com.
Subject of email: Student’s Last Name, First Name Recommendation.
____one (1) must be from college/twelfth grade counselor,
____one (1) from a high school teacher, and/or administrator, and
____one (1) from a community/civic leader, clergy, employer, or volunteer supervisor who will vouch for the character of the applicant. THE LETTERS OF RECOMMENDATIONS CANNOT BE FROM A FAMILY MEMBER. ALL RECOMMENDATIONS MUST BE SENT FROM THE RECOMMENDER’S OFFICIAL SCHOOL, ORGANIZATION OR CORPORATE EMAIL ADDRESS.
APPLICATION SUBMISSION:
Your application must be submitted online to scholarship@dstlachapter.com, no later than Friday, March 26, 2021 at 11:59 pm.
Official/Electronic Transcripts must be submitted online by a school official to
scholarship@dstlachapter.com, no later than Friday, March 26, 2021 at 11:59 pm.
INTERVIEW PROCESS:
Eligible applicants will be contacted and scheduled for a required interview, on a date to be determined.
SELECTION PROCESS:
After the interview process, recipients will be selected by the Scholarship Committee. Selection will be based on the Applicant’s application, scholarship requirements and interview.
DISTRIBUTION PROCESS:
Final distribution of the scholarship award will be contingent upon receiving proof of your 2021 verified enrollment at a four–year institution. If you have any questions, please email scholarship@dstlachapter.com
