Startup Summer overview:

NFTE's Startup Summer (SUS) program is an intensive six-week summer program that provides recent NFTE students with the resources and support to launch fully functional businesses. Students take part in a two-week boot camp and four-week launch phase, covering all business essentials to successfully launch a business.

Teaching Assistant (TA) overview:

The Teaching Assistant (TA) will work beside the Startup Summer Lead Teacher and Citi Fellow and will report to the NFTE Program Manager. The TA will work closely with the Startup Summer Class of 2018, which consists of 20 NFTE student entrepreneurs working to launch their businesses and make sales throughout the summer. The summer will give you a fast paced and deep dive into the work of program management, workshop facilitation, and managing a team.

Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Attend all Bootcamp and Summer Launch working sessions during Summer 2018

  • Assist student entrepreneurs with general questions related to the startup process and business launch challenges they will encounter while completing their business model canvas

  • Provide detailed feedback on student work related to the startup & launch process

  • Lead one of the three cohorts of SUS students (working one-on-one with 5-6 SUS student entrepreneurs throughout the course of the summer program)

  • Act as a source of motivational support during all Startup Summer sessions

  • Troubleshoot student challenges that occur outside of official SUS sessions via email or phone

  • Must be a former Startup Summer student entrepreneur

  • Must be comfortable with leading a variety of content-focused workshops (Note:

    we will provide the content, the TA will lead some of the workshop sessions with support from the SUS Lead Teacher; topics to be covered may include the following: testing a market, product positioning, building an MVP, designing a business model, effective selling, digital marketing, building a web presence, startup expenses, and more)

  • Show up on-time each day of the program

  • We are looking for an energetic, motivated individual who will work with all

    student entrepreneurs to accomplish collective and individual goals

  • Must have strong communication and writing skills, proficient in Microsoft Office applications

Program Dates:

• Startup Summer is broken down into 2 distinct phases: Bootcamp and Summer Launch

o The Bootcamp phase is 2 weeks and runs from July 2-16th, Monday- Friday from 9am-4:30pm (except the 4th of July holiday)

o The Launch phase is 4 weeks and runs from July 17th-August 16th, 4 days a week; Mondays from 9am-4:30pm, Tuesdays from 9-2pm, Wednesdays from 12-7pm, and Fridays from 11am-2pm

o Note: An additional 3 hours of in-person support will be needed for the Startup Summer Investment Panel being hosted on Thursday, August 16, 2018
